I am the oldest of four children, raised by a young Mother. My Mother was divorced at 26, at a time that divorce did not happen, it was OK to be the property of an abusive husband.
I was a very strong willed child, hated school,...and decided I could quit school at 16, and a Junior in high school. I thought how nice it would be to not have to get up early, just hang out at home, because after all, "I was an adult. My Mother allowed me to quit, not long after I started my Junior year of high school. The first day after I had quit, I thought how great it would be to sleep in late. Boy was I mistaken.... My Mother woke me up earlier than usual, my first official day after quitting school. I verbally made her aware that I did not have to get up, I had quit school. She grinned at me, and stated, "and I am so thankful to have help around here. Long story short, my Mother about worked me to death the first two weeks after I had quit school. I asked to go back to school after two weeks. With a twinkle in her blue eyes, she said "no, not just yet, we have a lot of work to do." Until the start of the session after the Christmas break, she about worked me to death.
In January after the Christmas break, I went back to school, much more mature, and never again tried to quit. I did take many years off after graduation, however, I returned to school, graduated from WKU, first with an Associate Degree in Nursing, waited then returned for my BSN, and Good Lord willing, I will enroll in a Graduate program this Fall.
I was the first person to graduate from College in my family, now the call me a professional student.......I learned my lesson from my best friend, my Mother.
