I often wonder why people always want to be happy- every minute of every day in their lives. I mean, who can blames us as we are surrounded by ever smiling faces on magazine covers, advertisements and tv programs. There is a never-ending war on feeling unhappy or just a little down. This forces us to try hard to be happy even worse- to fake happiness, which leaves us empty and even more misrable than if we let life do its magic and bring us up by itself.

I think there is nothing better than having a really bad day once in a while. This past Monday morning I awoke and remember feeling more misrable than ever- a 4 hour sleep retreat had left my mind half-dazed, and I could literally feel pain from keeping my eyes open. Somehow i gathered energy to get out of bed and enter the living room just to discover that an electricity black out. "Great!" i thought "Now i can't even make coffee, so good luck to me waking up!". While i was musing over all the negative things that this day had brought me, my mind pictured even more horrible events waiting for me- missing the metro, starting to rain while i have no umbrella...the list went on and on. Then, a funny thing happened- I suddenly realized my pathetic state of mind of complaining! I was whining by default, because that is what one does when something bad happens- we complain!

The truth is that life doesn't owe us anything, and there is good and bad that will happen to us. The sooner we realize that, the calmer we will get when we wake up tired and grumpy. It is that simple! It is normal to be in a bad mood once in a while, because that is what makes us real people and not always smiling paper men. So next time you just miss that train you wanted to catch, go ahead and frown, because it is your frown and it is real!:)
