This is a story about my small family. We live up in the middle of nowhere Northern Michigan (which as many of you know has one of the worst economies in the United States). While the economy is hard at least my husband has a decent job. It doesn't pay great but he comes home happy after a long day's work.

While my husband enjoys his job, the pay barely helps us get by through rent, electric, and gas. We also have two young children under three. Each of my children are healthy and have medical assistance through the state. I am so grateful for the assistance we do receive. We also have to have food benefits or we would not survive. I'm a proud woman and I hate having to take hand-outs but I do not want my children to go hungry or with out medical care.

The problem begins to arise with my husband. He happens to be more proud than I am but he also has Type 1 Diabetes. He needs medical care and to be able to get his supplies inexpensively. Insulin ends up costing us an arm an a leg every month. Add that to the every growing list of other expenses and we just can't keep our heads above water.

I wonder how many other families are out there struggling like we are. My husband and I both work in the Customer Service field which is hard to do when you have less and less customers. There is just not the money there use to be.
