I met my husband Justin in a drug rehab. They'll tell you not to get romantically involved in your first year of sobriety, but we're addicts, we don't listen. We got married about six months later. We were clean for about a year when I got pregnant with our son, Story. When that happened I changed, my mental problems were limited to "simple" depression and anxiety and when faced with the prospect of a new child I guess God delivered me from those issues. With Justin it was not so easy. He's dyslexic, bi-polar, obsessive-compulsive, and has ADHD. I call it the "perfect storm" of mental illness. He can't work, we can't afford daycare, and we're now unable to pay for his prescriptions so things are about to become a lot worse. I'm scared for myself and for my son. I don't want him to think that it's normal for Daddy to sleep for days on end and then stay awake for nights on end zip-tying wires, organizing endlessly, and rearranging, not to mention the moodiness, the self-hatred, the fighting. My husband must have his medication, I must have my sanity, and my son must have a life. We need help. I'm submitting this story for the drug benefits, many of you will not find it inspirational, but I assure you it is heartfelt.
