The United States Department of Health and Human Services has a website called Insure Kids Now! It is a national initiative for linking families to low-cost insurance programs for children. Your state, and every state in the nation, has a health insurance program for infants, children and teens. The insurance is available to children in working families. Kids that do not currently have health insurance are likely to be eligible, even if you are working. The states have different eligibility rules, but in most states, uninsured children 18 years old and younger whose families earn up to $34,100 a year (for a family of four) are eligible. The website, which is located at www.insurekidsnow.gov, has a drop-down list of states. Pick your state, and you will be shown all the information on eligibility rules, etc. You can obtain further information by calling toll-free 1-877-KIDS-NOW (1-877-543-7669).
