After suffering from pancreatitis I was put on very heavy doses of narcotic pain medicaiton (oxycontin, morphine sulfate, fentynal patch, hydrocodone, oxycodone, etc.) I had never taken any narcotic pain medicaiton in my life. As the dosages went up and the length of time on them increased I was not only dependent, but ADDICTED. I went thru 2 treatment centers to try and get clean, only to be put on methadone at the first one, and suboxone at the second. I would frequently run out of my meds and then go into the gates of HELL know as opiate withdrawl. To make a long story...not so long. I altered a methadone prescription and got caught. Now, you need to realize I was a very successful business person and retired at the age of 35. I ended up spending 3 nights in jail and then sent to a facility to detox. After detox I had the wonderful opportunity to spend 90 days at Hazelden Springbrook Treatment Center in Newberg, OR. At discharge they recommended I take Naltrexone to help wih cravings and as a deterrent because it blocks the opiate receptors and if you do use there is zero effect. To help me even more I have my meds monitored. I meet with a company 3 days a week and take the meds in there presence and they also count my pills. I also do random UA's with them. I need to go to any lengths for sobriety and the cost of the monitoring is a drop in the bucket to the cost of the drugs, treatment, etc.

All I can say is this "protocol" has kept me sober since I began doing it and I can now say that I am grateful I got caught altering that methadone prescription or I probably wouldn't be alive to give you my experience, strength, and HOPE:)
