Today more and more people are being diagnosed with a mental illness; but the cost of medication and medical care is too high for these people to get help. Instead of supporting those with mental illness, America has created a monster that commercializes the medication needed to maintain a "normal lifestyle." Now America's prisons, streets and even homes, are filled with people that are just trying to maintain. Alcohol and drugs are easier and cheaper to obtain to "feel normal" or to "cope," than prescription drugs. State funded mental health programs are too under-funded and understaffed to cope with this issue. What are we going to do about this problem? Does anyone else think that America would be more productive if we helped the down-trodden, instead of cast stones at them?
