Preston's Seizure (4)
About a year ago my son, Preston, had a febrile seizure. For those who don't know, this type of seizure occurs when a fever spikes too rapidly for your body to handle it. I was on my way home from work, and my wife called me on my cellphone to tell me. I told her I was right around the corner. I arrived and found her crouched over our 15-month-old son, who was laying on the couch, convulsing. It was a scary sight. We tried to keep him calm, but he was barely concious. Moments later we heard the sirens, so I went outside to direct the paramedics to our house. They arrived and put him on oxygen. He started screaming like we'd never heard before, but thank God he was alert. They took him to the hospital, and the doctors re-hydrated and examined him. They found nothing wrong with him other than the virus that had caused the fever, and his dehydration. They told us that he is more likely to have another seizure now that he's had this one. So, we watch his temperature carefully when he gets a fever. Preston was better within a few days
