I have ADHD and no health insurance to help pay for my medication. I feel I NEED my medication in order to live life to the fullest. Without my medication it seems to take me twice as long, if not longer, to complete simple daily tasks. I am a nursing student and I have done very well this semester ending with a 3.89 GPA. I am concerned that I will not be able to afford my medication for next semester and I worry how this will affect my grades.
I don't feel safe driving when unmedicated and I surely don't feel safe working at a place where I have to give other people medical care when unmedicated. Its not like I am bouncing off the walls, but I am easily distracted. It bothers me that I have to rely on medication to be "normal" especially because within the next few years my husband and I plan on having a baby. I don't want to have to take medication while pregnant and then there is always the fear that I will pass on ADHD to my offspring.
I hate to make this sound like a sob story and I am not looking for pity at all! I am fortunate that there is a medication that helps me to function like everybody else! I just wish there was a cheaper generic drug. Better yet, I wish there was universal health care so that students and people who have jobs that don't offer insurance don't have to pay an arm and a leg for medicine! Story goes here...
