Hello, in 1990, I was a legal secretary of a law firm in California and a bookshelf, books and glass mantle clock hit me on top of the head making an 1 1/2 laceration in my scalp. I had non-stop headaches for 6 years. During that time, I returned home to Iowa to get well and finish raising my teenage daughter. I returned to college to get my BS degree and realized that something was wrong with my memory. I was tested and diagnosed with ADHD and a cognitive condition caused by brain trauma. This started my neck and upper back problems as well.
I graduated and returned to the Bay Area in 1998. I used to walk 8 miles almost every day. In 1999, I was rear ended at a stop light and I began having sciatica and lower back problems. I tried chiropractic measures, physical therapy, accupuncture and medicine and nothing was long lasting.
I was an Executive Assistant who for some reason all of the jobs I took were downsizing or closing. This financial pressure added to my physical stress. Due to my physical limitations I could not work retail as a second job so I had to rely on an Executive Assistant salary. Nearly broke, I decided to leave the Bay Area and go to Florida. I was not there one week when 911 occured and it was impossible to find an admin job that paid anything as well as an Executive Assistant. I have post traumatic stress syndrome from the 911 and Amthrax events. I wanted to get out of Florida as quickly as possible. I was there 2 1/2 months and returned to the Bay Area which had a worse economy than Florida, but I felt at home. I could not find a job so I returned home to Iowa and stayed with my sister a couple of months, then to Minnesota to stay with my daughter, then to Arizona to stay with some friends, back to the East part of the Bay Area, back to Iowa, and then to San Diego during the next 5 years because my goal was to find a good job while still fighting my back and neck pain, anxiety and depression.
I have my BS degree in Apparel Design and Merchandising so I decided to take a job up the street from the room I was renting until I got used to the area. In February, 2004, the company was understaffed and I was in customer service alone. I reached back to hang something up and my left foot caught a box of hangtags that should not have been there. I flew to the floor, landing on my stomach, left knee to the floor and my right palm to the floor.
I sought treatment through WC which is a joke and they kept telling me my knee pain was my sciatica from my back. I quit going to doctors because they would not listen. In the fall of 2006, I returned home to Iowa to live again to get well. I have not worked for 2 1/2 years and I am trying to use the Iowa Care Medical program which is a joke. A patient is allowed 10-15 minutes with a nurse practitioner that takes 6 months or longer to get in. I have to drive 3 1/2 hours for a 10 minute appointment that they don't listen to anyway.
I did at least get a new MRI of my knee and 3 years later, I find out I have a torn cartilage that cannot be surgically repaired, at times I can barely walk. This has also caused foot problems especially on the left side. They are not sure if it is a neuroma or pinched metatarsals or what and I had to wait over a year for an appointment with the foot doctor. I have neuropathy on my left side primarily from my foot up to my knee. I have atrophy all the way from my left knee down my leg to my ankle and foot. I was on no medication until May 2006 and I cannot have any narcotics so I endure much pain.
I just would like to have insurance so that I could see the doctors 50 miles from here (or some that are here) agressively so we can get to the bottom of this so I can be gainfully employed again.
I believe that with regular physical therapy, massage and prolotherapy, I can be healed.
I would ask that someone help me get my life back. Thank you. |
