When I first began taking medications for my ADD, it was because I was not getting my work done. At the age of 23 I had had close to twice that number of jobs. What I had noticed was a pattern, I would start at a new job, and do very well at it for as long as it was new and exciting (depending on the job, it was either a day, a week, or even as long as a month) following that, I was no longer able to get myself to do the work. When I spoke to my doctor he suggested Adderall XR. I found that to be very helpful, and remained in the same job for over a year!! Then my boss changed to a different health insurance program, and prescriptions were no longer covered. I therefore stopped taking the medications that I had been on, with disastrous effects. The withdrawals that I went through (not from the adderall, but rather from Paxil which I had also been on) lasted about 6 weeks, during which I was basically in bed going through what I considered to be hell. When at long last, the withdrawalls ceased, I returned to work only to find that without the adderall I couldnt get my work done. I am now back on the medications, and I have been paying cash for it. My theory behind that is I can pay $150 a month and be able to work and get the money needed to pay for it, or I can not take it and lose my job entirely and not have any money for anything. That is my story, I hope you enjoyed reading it.
