My 4 year old grandson, is severely ADHD and also autistic. I had him in speech therapy for 2 years, and it wasn't doing much good. He still didn't talk very much at all. He couldn't sit still long enough to pay attention.

When he started actually pinging off the walls every day (and night), and also started staying awake almost 24/7. I knew something other than just the autism was wrong! My roommate and I had to take shifts sleeping. This baby would only take about a 15 minute "power nap" every 7 or 8 hours, then be up and running again for another 7 or 8 hours!

After extensive testing, they prescribed Focalin for his ADHD. Well, it made him into a virtual zombie, even at the lowest dosage. I asked the Dr to change it. He was "way too slow" then! So then we tried Adderall, I looked it up and didn't like all of the potential side effects. So then he switched him to Strattera, and it has been a God Send!

Also, since this baby's Mother (my daughter) committed suicide, his Dr said that Strattera was FIRST created to help with depression in kids! So since it was helping with any future depression and ALSO working so good for his ADHD, he definitely wants to keep him on this particular drug!

Now, he goes to a special pre-school that helps him with his autism, and is actually sitting still, and learning and talking!!

So, what's the problem? Medicaid won't pay for the medication! They keep denying, no matter what we do! I have been having to go get samples from the Dr every month, and now they are running out too!

What the heck is wrong with Medicaid?? I thought about sending my grandson to the "powers that be" at the Mediciaid approval office, (without him being on his meds) and see if they would still NOT approve it, after they have been around him 24/7 for about a month!!
