This past Christmas I got to know an elderly man (he had the onset of Alzheimer's and was on oxygen). He was widowed and his children "didn't have time for him". He was so kind and humble, it almost broke my heart the way how he was tossed aside like a piece of trash. He would come to see me at work and we would talk a little bit. For Christmas, I gave him a $30 gift card to the pharmacy so that he could get his prescriptions and other things he might need. He looked at me with tears in his eyes and couldn't even say a word. Instead he hugged me and told me how much he appreciated someone recognizing him, listening to him, thinking about him. He was put into a nursing home right after the holidays and that was the last I've heard from him. I hope he is well and I hope wherever he's at, they are listening to him, recognizing him and thinking about him.
