My son at eighteen months used about 15 words only. Other developmental indicators showed no problems. Even his understanding of others talking to him was high - he could follow complex instructions. Our doc suggested we get a hearing test and a speech therapy assessment.
Now three and after a full year of speech therapy my son is talking and singing like any other three year old. We are still working with the speech therapist fine tuning vowel sounds and others but he is mostly able to converse with anyone.
What a relief!
So many people had stories about how their kid just started talking at three, not to worry about my son and that he didn't need speech therapy. I'm glad I did what I did. I would do it exactly the same way.
