Chronic Pain is untreated by physicians on a epidemic level.Indeed fear of addiction and pressure from the DEA on Doctors had lead to unnecessary suffering amongst many people.
I suffer from a variety of painful back and spinal conditions and I have learned first hand how hard it is to get adequate treatment.I was involved in an automobile accident in 2000 which left my posture at a 25 degree angle and made it very painful to walk.My repeated efforts to voice the pain I suffered from fell on deaf ears until 2007,when finally my PCP sent me for a MRI.
My MRI revealed that I suffered from Diffuse Degenerative Disk Disease,Osteoarthritis, spinal stenosis and Kyphosis.A month later I ended up in an operation room for a cervical spinal fusion which ultimately failed and has left me facing two more operations next week.
These conditions could of been prevented or responded better to treatment if my PCP had listened to me.However I have learned some lessons which I will pass on as they may help others.
1)Always seek an answer from a specialist when it comes to chronic problems.
2)We live in the Information Age so seek out and study up about your illnesses. Many Physicians just don't have time to keep up with findings/studies of each and every illness they come across.
3)Join a support group for your problem as they are a good source of information.
4)Speak to a number of professionals in the medical community in you search for answers eg. RNs,Counselors, and CNAs to mention a few.
5)Exercise if possible as this will help with general health.
6)Eat well-good nutrition helps with all health problems.
7)Trust your own instincts-no one knows your own body as well as you do!
8)Keep a positive attitude-a healthy mind leads to a healthy body.
9)Never give up!The answer to your problems may lie around the next corner.
10)Leave no stone unturned in your search for answers.

I hope the above pointers will help someone deal with chronic pain or chronic health problems.
