I am on disability for fibromyalgia, which I have had for many years.
Prior to having to enroll in Part D (the drug portion of medicare), I was able to get many of my meds through patient assistance programs.
However as soon as medicare D went into effect, the programs from big Pharma denied me my medicine.

Due to the additional costs of the non generic medicines, my doctor had to remove me from the medicines that were too costly. It has resulted in my health going downhill. There is one particular medicine that I used to have that has been on the market for a very long time. However there is no generic because the company won a lawsuit to keep their patent for longer than the usual five years.

Also because of the doughnut hole, where you have to pay all your meds out of pocket, I end up going to different discount pharmacies to find the one that might cover my generic medicine under their discount plan, such as Walmart, so as to not have to submit it towards my medicare part D.

Yet thee companies are getting higher premiums and giving less.
Something needs to be done. I saw some hearing on C Span awhile ago where their was a disabled women in the same position I am in. Also another man had gotten cancer, and had not expected to have to spend that kind of money on his medicine. You can only change plans from Nov 15-Dec 31st, so he was stuck without a proper plan.

Surely an exception should be made for someone that suddenly becomes ill like that. I am sure many of you are out there with similar complaints! Best of luck!
