Hello, I am a 29 year old waitress. I have recently graduated with a BA from a state school. I have 4 cavities and need an eye exam in order to get new contacts, and I have just been diagnosed with depression by my therapist. I have never been able to qualify for Medical in California, because I don't have any children, but I made too much (more than $800/mo) to qualify for low-income insurance. In short- I haven't had health ins. for the last 10 years. I've always paid out of pocket because it was easier (paperwork) and MUCH less expensive than paying the monthly rate for Blue Cross/Shield as well as whatever co-pay would be not included. But now, I need some anti-depression medication, badly, and it would be so nice to have insurance for my teeth and eyes as well. Just the basics. My colleges didn't offer a program for these things that was any less expensive than a public ins. program- it has always been cheaper for me to just pay out of pocket, and so I have until now. I can't afford it now.
