Out in the workforce since 16 yoa, on my own since 17yoa, (my choice mind you...the all knowing teenager syndrome), Always holding down a job, at times 2 and 3. A son who endured the life of a latch-key-kid, having only 3 months he had ever during his 17 yrs living at home, enjoyed the gift of knowing his mom to be there 24/7 in body/person without any employment commitment dragging me off somewhere, missing yet another soccer, football game or scout event.
although my life has been hardworking as most of us experience, after an abusive first marriage, found a lovely man who always provided, between disability events, but never able to completely provide in order to allow me the blessing of being a full-time homemaker,, we were always the ones to give a helping fifty dollars here, two hundred there, and yes, always to be repaid back to us, in good intentions mostly.
okay, so now 25 years later, the marriage gone, a spinal deformity and chronic spinal pain now plague me and the hurrendous surgery took place 2006 leaving me with again, depression, more pain- life long none the less, causing me to loose a 14 yr career at my local police department (communications supervisor/administrative assistant- instructor, the whole nine yards);
I had expected to return to the job post surgery at 6 weeks, nope! 12 weeks, "who am I kidding, yep! me!
needless to say, the job had to be filled with a warm body on location, forcing me to take medical termination.
lost all my benefits, the retirement money gone in a flash, creditors, etc. you know.,A year later, after exhausting all unemployment assistance and other ( very little) assistance, at 46 yrs old, I am destitute. the only thing I have, and who knows for how long, is my car... no gas to drive it, but it's in the driveway of the little shack house next door to my elderly social security dependent mother.
.... None of those who regularly called for the odd 50, 200.00 were able to help out. Never thought it'd be me.
