If you, like me, have been concerned about non-stick coatings on cookware, a new Consumer Reports study seems to indicate they are safe as long as you don't use them at extreme temperatures. Earlier studies seemed to indicate that fumes from the coating could cause flu-like symptoms. The report noted that the EPA said the synthetic chemical perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) has been found to cause cancer. So, use them in a well ventilated area and don't use them if the coating has started to flake off.
