5 years ago, 1 month b4 my 21st birthday I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Ever since then my life has been a nightmare. I have received some help with paying for my medications through Washington State, but most of the help I get with receiving my medications comes from the help of my 2 brothers, who are both type 1 diabetics also. I have other mental health issues and have not had a job in over 3 years. This makes my life very hard. At times I have been able to go down to Mexico and buy my insulin over the counter, but as of now it is not an option. My younger brother is going to be 19 at the end of July and will no longer be on my dads insurance, so asking if he has any "extra" insulin is out of the question. My older brother has medical insurance, but again asking him to have some of his supply of insulin isnt really fair to him. At the age of 26, I should no longer be dependent on other people that are struggling in their own life to get by. I have recently stopped getting my social security checks that I have been living off of for the past 2 1/2 years, so life right now is a little scary, as I havent had a real job in what seems life forever. Life right now is real, real hard. I want to give up, but know that isnt an option either. I only have a few more days of my long lasting insulin (lantus) left, and am shameful to ask for help from my family, because I feel as if I should try my best to get a job and take care of this problem myself. I am not mentally stable, so day to day life is hard.... simple tasks just like answering the phone is not easy for me. Asking for help is even harder. I am taking a chance in asking for help on this website, I figure that u have to start somewhere. I dont really know what else to do. Please offer me advice, at the least, or if at all possible help me get by the next couple of months with a new bottle of lantus. WIthout this medication I get very sick and could even possibly die. Thank you for your time, Erika Scrive
