In 2006, I was diagnosed with an illness known as myasthenia gravis. This is a serious muscle illness that I discovered I had two years after I had been taken out of work for falling constantly although the cause of these falls was not known. After being tested, It was discovered that I had the disease. Since then, I have undergone several treatments for my illness since there is no known cure for the disease. I also take several medications for the disease. I have been hospitalized at Duke Medical Center due to the illness and live with it and the pain and weakness that results from it on a day to day basis. I still try to attend church services on a regular basis even though the weakness from the disease is sometimes too much. I use a cane to get around but sometimes when the weakness is overbearing I have to use a walker for movement.
