I recently had to break down and apply for public assistance. I fought it all the way. Yet I had no choice. The doctor said I cannot work due to bipolar and panic disorder along with PTSD. So with only my husbands income we cannot make it. I applied for disability but have heard it could take years. I'm so disheartened with the ability to get help, I'm glad there's programs like this to help. It won't be quite enough for my family, but it will definitely help others. I have applied for SSI (denied), Disability and welfare (denied insurance without $50/month copay - can't afford). So we're just stuck. We could lose the house, and everything if things don't turn around quickly.
Thanks for listening.
