At 5:36 P.M. on 9/11/2005. I was driving down a busy street in Denver Colorado when a young man struck my car doing around 50 miles an hour or so.
From that I received a brain injury that is irreversible, which has effected how I do things in life. I have learned how to do allot of my daily life over in a new way. Not good or bad just different. Brain injuries do not all ways show up right away they can take a little time letting you know something is wrong.
When I could no longer recognize people, found the gallon of milk in the coat closet, my shoes in the dishwasher, or I might just take them off and throw them away. I knew there was a big problem I did not remember doing any of that, My family and friends knew something was bad wrong My primary was beside herself at first trying to figure it out. Nothing showed up in MRI's or Cat scans.
I finally ended up 5 months later seeing a Neurophsycologist, who he and his partner specializes in just this kind of injury and have designed testing for it. I was tested for a total of 8 hrs over a few days. The results were very low. I was int he bottom 1-3 % of all most all the tests. Very scary. I run my own business and am very successful in life.
The docs put me on Adderall Rx time release with the watchful eye of my Primary we all figured out the dosages and I noticed a difference by the 2nd day, It wasn't huge but it was a difference. Once they got me used to the very low dosage they upped it a few times till it was great. I can do just about everything I used to for the exception I do have 3 pairs of eye glasses for my right eye. The left side is just a piece of glass. My eye can still change threw out the day but not like it used to. Its great when things start working again. No not just great its AWESOME to have my LIFE back.
So I encourage anyone who has had Trauma go get tested, see a Neuro doc. Do not get stuck with the test results, it does get better.
Its just different, not good, not bad .DIFFERENT
