My husband has congestive heart failure and suffers from one of his ventricals being enlarged. They told us that without a heart transplant he would probably not live for more than a year. He refused to be put on the transplant list because we had no way of paying for it. We got his disability started, and the doctor put him on Coreg and Altace to try to help the problem. That was back in 2005. The medicine makes him feel really bad, and he can no longer work, but after 2 years, he is still alive which is a blessing. The medicine does seem to be helping. He will never be like someone with a good heart, but if the medicine continues to work, his doctor said that he won't need that transplant after all. Maybe he will be able to see our son play his first baseball game, or be there when our daughter starts kindergarten. Then again he may not. We never know, and we pretty much have to live our life day by day. There is hope though now that we know he is responding to the medication. We know he doesn't necissarily have to die. He could still live a long and healthy life. I hope that someone else in our position might read this, and can maybe suggest the medication to their doctor. Coreg really works.
