I began having bad urgency and sever pelvic pain in 01/2006. I had every test you can think of MRI CT SCAN Ultrasound's etc. Eventually my primary dr said he couldn't find anything b/c everything looked normal and maybe is is stressed induced. I knew something was wrong. One night while in excruciating pain I went to an urgent care clinic. I told them a brief run down of what had been going on and that there was nothing else it could be according to my drs. He said he had an idea and handed me papers on IC. I read through the symptoms and began to cry right there. I knew this is what I had. I emailed my dr and mentioned it to him and he sent me to a urologist. Now this has been 9 months of horrible untreated pain. No one would give a 23 year old narcotics for an "unknown ailment" so I suffered until 09/28/06 when, through cystoscopy and urodynamics testing, I was diagnosed with IC. It is a chronic life long condition without a cure. Emliron is the only FDA approved drug that helps 60% of people. There are many different "treatments" for ic including hydrodistention, instillations, dsmo, antibiotics, nerve pain medications, antispasmodics and so on but nothing guaranteed to help and nothing to cure it. I live life everyday with pain reaching 7-8 on a good day. I asked my dr why this disease was overlooked with me he said b/c it is for older people not a healthy 23 year old. So because of my age I suffered undiagnosed for that long. I have tried all treatments and the only thinG that helps is narcotic pain medication which I feel I have to fight for. My bladder looks like it has been through a blender and I have hunners ulcers. My case is severe. I can hold 100cc's of urine and urinate 40-70 x per day. I am learning day by day how to live life with IC but have now been told I will have to file for disability b/c it is so severe I could never hold a job again. I will one day regain my life b/c I HAVE IC, IC DOES NOT HAVE ME.My husband and 4 year old strengthen me.
