I was 14 years old at the time, & in a long-term relationship. We would go to Dunkin Donuts after school from 2:30pm-6:00pm. I would come home, eat a regular dinner, go out with my mother, exercise, take a shower and get ready for bed. Not thinking anything of it, but one night I went to bed early knowing I had to get up for school in the morning, it was 9:30pm. I laid there two hours and realized my heart was racing & that I was breathing too fast and sighing too much. I probably dozed off here and there until I heard an alarm go off really annoyingly in my mother's room, and she didn't hear it until like an hour later and it freaked me out even more. I tried to block it out, and I tried to see if my mom would wake up if I knocked on the door and she was out like a light. I became panicky and worried more, heart still beating quickly.
I laid there for the rest of the night finally 3:00am I went to sleep.
I woke up alll exhausted and didn't even wanna get up because I was too afraid it would happen at school or all over again the same time of night. I stayed away from coffee for quite sometime. A year later I went to the doctor's and he diagnosed me with panic disorder. I didn't know what the hell it meant until of course i researched it. I was prescribed Zoloft, and till this day I'm still taking it. It has helped me a lot besides putting on 15lbs, but I'd rather gain weight than suffer what I did. I still experience panic episodes, and when I do they happen daily. I tried getting off Zoloft, within 6 months the panic returned and the nerves in my bladder were all crazy and once I got back on it within another 6 months I was back to normal. I thought I was gonna die. It was a bad year in 2006. I still think about my strengths and weaknesses. Has panic helped me control myself? Definitely. I cannot have chinese food because my heart races. But once in a while I will. I crave salt and sweets not as often as i used to. Even thought I hate medication, get help!
