The Annals of Internal Medicine published findings from a study of Americans with diabetes. It indicates that between 1971 and 2000 the rate of premature death has not changed for diabetic women while rates for diabetic men fell about 43 percent. Some speculate that men are more informed or are more agressively treated for cardiovascular disease, the most common cause of death in diabetics.
