The first limit I reached was that I'd had all the radiation in the left lung allowable. That was the second round of rad. in 4 yrs. This time my oncologist wanted me to have some mild chemo therapy which I had refused the first time around. He convinced me that the chemo, while mild, would add some "oomph" to the radiation treatment, so I agreed to have 8 infusions. As a side effect of chemo I was quite nauseous after each infusion and so I was given perscriptions to combat that. I was also given some mild depression meds and some other med I can't recall. However, those scripts put me into the "donut hole" in my prescription D coverage. There are few generics meds for cancer drugs and they are SOOOOO expensive. Last year I didn't get to the donut hole until Sept. This year it was June. I thought I could "do" without those maintenance meds but soon learned I cannot. It was a nuisance but I managed to learn which of my meds have a generic equivalent. And for those that do NOT have a generic equal, I called my doctors and asked for samples and THAT has been what has kept me supplied with maintenance meds. If any of you are in the same position I found myself in and yet have not asked your doctor for samples , please do so immediately! Most doctors are more than willing to cooperate with a patient where med needs are concerned. Do it now! Don't allow pride to stand in the way and cause you be "short" on money that may be needed other places! Thanks to those of you who posted a note on my page. My prayers are with us all!
