My name is Savati James. I am African-American woman with high blood pressure. I was diagnosed with high blood pressure in 1993. At that time, I was in my early 30's. The problem continue to progress without medication being able to get in under control. After many years and different medications, I have finally been able to get in under control but at a high cost. I have since been also diagnosed with heart murmur, enlarged heart and aortic regurgitation.
The cost of monthly medication is expensive, but it is the price of not receiving early detection and accurate diagnosis. I share this story because I don't look sick, but without my medication, my condition would worsen and could result in cardiac arrest. Everyone should have their pressure checked regularly and seek proper medical attention if they sense something is wrong.

Thank you for allowing me to share my story.
