I recently moved to North Dakota with my son and my parents to give myself and my son a better life. Attending graduate school and working part time is the way I decided to go - with my bipolar it is difficult for me to hold a full time 40-hour per week job, even when I do have medication.

My son has ADHD and requires medication as well as a consistent routine - the meds are not inexpensive, and are not available in generic form.

I applied for Medicaid because I don't make enough money to get affordable health care - spending over $500 per month just on medication, that is over half of my monthly income.

My son qualifies for full coverage but i do not. I make $900 a month, maximum, but North Dakota includes child support as income - child support is a luxury, and it does not come on a reliable basis.

Here I am, a single parent working my tail off to make a better life for myself and my son - but I'm stuck. I can't qualify for Medicaid (they won't pay for anything unless I pay out of pocket $549 during the month, then they'll help - for me).

My only option at this point is to quit working and live off state assistance - I don't WANT to be on state assistance - I don't WANT to milk the system - North Dakota is creating its own problem - does the government really want us to better ourselves? it seems they are encouraging staying on assistance - if I get a job that does not include benefits, what choices do i have?

our meds do not have a generic substitute - what are my options? Quit working? Stop providing for my child? Live off my parents for the rest of my life?

It's too hard being poor in America - maybe i should move to a third world country so I can get some assistance from our country.
