My name is Angie. I am a happily married mother of 3 energetic little boys; ages 7, 5 and 1. My husband lost his job in July of 2007 and subsequently our family had to apply for private health insurance coverage as we were unable to afford COBRA for a mere $1800 a month. Rejection letter after rejection letter opened our eyes to the fact that no healthcare company would insure our family. Each company gave the same reason for rejection: pre-existing health conditions. Our middle son, Cameron has had Asthma since he was a baby. He must take daily asthma and allergy medications to keep his lungs functioning properly. What is wrong with this picture? Why couldn't we obtain healthcare coverage? After pondering our situation, the answer was clear...MONEY. It's all about money. Healthcare companies do not want to insure our family, because they will not make as much of a profit than if our son was "healthy". We are so fortunate to live in the United States of America, our beautiful land of the "free". You always hear politician's debating our worsening situation...the keyword being just "debating". What about families who's children have cancer, or worse...children who are dying? What happens to these families if Mommy and Daddy lose their jobs? Our country needs to unite on this, and it needed to be done yesterday. Healthcare companies and politicians say that they care, however actions speak louder than words.
