Marriage is beneficial because it offers security and stability. I got married because it was more moral to be married and living together. Before I got married I was a poor single mother with 2 kids and we qualified for free medical assistance. After I got married my husband's income put us above the poverty line. He is going to have to pay $500 a month for health care coverage through his employer. My 2 children are not his, yet, according to the social service, since he is responsible for me then he is indirectly responsible for them. He loves my children as his own and wants to adopt them. It is unfair that he is financially responsible for them when he has no right to them. He can't adopt them yet he is supporting them more than their real fathers. I was told that I would have to fight the state laws and child support laws. The children's father should be responsible for providing them health care coverage if the mother can't. If the step father is then he should have partial legal custody of the children.
