I am a single mother of three. I have run a registered daycare out of my home for 18 years now. Being self-employed, of course there is no insurance available, unless I were to buy it, which is basically not affordable. I cannot afford to go to the doctor, except on an emergency basis, and often suffer needlessly because of this. (also spending the next year or so making payments on the one visit!) I couldn't tell you the last time I had a mamogram or a pap smear.....the costs are just too high with what I make. I have high blood pressure, and the cost of the meds alone is killing me. I wish that medical care was available (and affordable), so that I might stick around a bit longer, to see my children raised, and to continue caring for the less fortunate children in my daycare in the years to come.
