I’ve been using CLOPIDOGREL - generic equivalent of PLAVIX for some time and was very satisfied with the result as well as with the price. Instead of paying $60 for 90 tablets, I paid only $16, which is significant saving for somebody who lives on social security and on Medicare.
Last time, instead of CLOPIDOGREL ($16) i received PLAVIX and was charged $60. I called to Caremark company and they said that this generic drug CLOPIDOGREL was taking of the shelfs because Bristol-Myers Squibb pharmaceutical (the creator of PLAVIX) ordered the Apotex Corp. to halt its sales of generic product CLOPIDOGREL, which compete with PLAVIX.
This case right now is in court since last year. Meanwhile, American people and government paying almost four times more then we would paid for generic equivalent of PLAVIX, if we had a choice.
P.S. If the cheaper versions of some medicines are more appropriate for some patients, then it is up to the doctors and patients to decide which form of medicine to use - the generics or not, because I believe we still live in free society, where the competition is and always was the driving force of free enterprise.
