In October 2000 I was involved in a severe auto accident. I was asleep in the back cab of a Chevy Silverado truck. The driver struck a tree at 90 mph ejecting me thru the middle of the 2 front seats face first into the dash, where my top and bottom front teeth were knocked out, chin bone shattered, and my L arm left paralyzed from a tear in the brachia plexus muscle, with severe nerve damage in the L arm. When I first arrived to our local hospital St. Mary's they were not equipped to do a tracheotomy. The only thing I know is that a police trooper performed the tracheotomy and saved my life - whoever he was - he was my angel. I was flown to Washington Hospital Center where I spent 18 days there in recovery. The first 5 in ICU with swelling on the brain and a tube inserted in my skull to relieve the swelling. After release I attended many doctors appointments, and physical therapy. I was told that I would never get the full use or even be able to lift my L arm ever again. I suffer from severe atrophy in that arm and suffer with constant pain in the MP joint of the thumb to the index finger on a daily basis. I have been severely depressed since the accident because I am not physically able to perform work, and daily activities as I used to. I feel like half a man. My loving wife has been very supportive of me in all that I do. I need help, we need help. My wife is currently working a FT Mgr. job plus, Avon, pampered chef, and now has taken a PT weekend job to help pay bills. My wife is only getting 5-6 hrs. sleep a night. I don't have any medicine coverage and this is why she is working herself so hard. I am on disability & I work PT, plus take little odd jobs too. We hardly get to see each other. I have Medicare but need medicine coverage I really need the help. I suffer with dehabilitating arthritis, high blood pressure, and severe depression daily & need help with the cost of medicine. It took me forever to type this as I only have the use of 1 hand.
