I keep hearing that mammograms are the best way to find breast cancer, but then I hear that these tests are often not read right by the x-ray doctors. It's kind of confusing knowing what to do. Does anyone have any opinions about this? |

I try to make sure that I get my mammograms done at large medical centers, rather than small-town clinics. I just feel better, I guess, going somewhere where the radiologists read x-rays and mammograms hundreds of times a week. All in all, I think mammograms are a good idea. I have had a couple false positives, however, which left me pretty scared until the second reading came back. |

I found a lump so they decided to do a mammogram. My mammogram was pretty accurate. They not only found the original lump but another smaller one that I wasn't aware of. They were only an inch apart. Thank goodness both were benign! |

Doctors want routine mammograms when you get older but if you have a family history of breast cancer, it's important to be proactive and request a mammogram, even if you're supposedly "too young" to need one yet. |

There's a more accurate test than mammogram. it's the sonogram. A doctor should order both. Breast Cancer is preventible, treatable and curable. Even a lack of insurance is not an excuse to let your health destroyed. Women should take advantage about the advances Cancer has. There are a lots of diseases like MS, Lupus, MD, ect that CAN'T be preventable and CAN'T be curable. And the treatments are beyond toxic. My doctor ordered me a mammogram and a sonogram in 2005. So i need to ask for another combo now. Due to my disease Lupus, i need to take those yearly to 2 year period. Lets take care of ourselves. |

I did not know that a sonogram was more descriptive or better than the mammogram. Interesting and I will keep that in mind next yearly.

Yes sometimes they make mistakes they are human but you need to go i lost both breast in jan and if the male doctor i wa going to would listen then they could have saved them but we have to get tested and ask questions and follow up and if you dont like the way you are being treated or you are unclear continue up the latter until somone can help you to understand even if you think the question is stupid as i assure you it is not ask demand that they address your issues but never give up on checking and getting the mamos as they are a god send at times it is the people that you have to get passed |

Sometimes you really have to voice your concerns because otherwise they overlook them. Always listen to that internal voice that us women have!
