Post topic: Ways to Quit Smoking

I thought that with so many members trying to quit smoking tobacco, a short list of methods is in order. Many smokers who sucessfully quit smoking try as many as 8 to 10 times before finally kicking the habit. Here are some products that can help you succeed. 1) Nicotine patches, available both in over-the-counter and prescription versions, help by delivering a steady dose of nicotine through the skin. They are replaced every day. 2) Nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) helps to relieve cravings and withdrawal symptoms, like irritability. This includes gum, patches, inhalers, and sprays. 3) Prescription nicotine nasal spray is absorbed rapidly and helps smokers are extremely dependent on nicotine. 4) Nicotine inhalers are available by prescription, and help satisfy cravings of smokers who are extremely dependent on nicotine. 5) Over-the-counter nicotine lozenges offer flexible dosing and help users take the edge off their cravings. 6) Prescription medications (non-nicotine) include the antidepressant bupropion, brand names Zyban and Wellbutrin. Chantix is a new drug that works on the nicotine receptors in the brain to diminish both withdrawal symptoms and pleasure associated with smoking. 7) Support groups and smoking-cessation programs are very effective in supplying emotional support.
