I’ve had type-1 diabetes since I was a young child and it has been mostly under control. I know have a very stressful job in the finance business now am taking shots of Humulin. During the last year my blood sugar dropped so fast, my co-workers had to call paramedics. Generally I am healthy, but these rapid drips in sugar levels are really scary to me. What can I do?

I would strongly advise you to talk with your physician. It sounds like maybe your diabetes medications need to be adjusted. A friend of mine who has Type I diabetes, and is considered a brittle diabetic, has been able to control it much better since she started wearing an insulin pump.

One of my friends also has Type-I diabetes. Whenever she is in a stressful situation, it seems harder for her to control her glucose levels. One thing that has really helped her out the past year or so is meditation. You might consider deep-relaxation techniques, too. It won't hurt!

I agree - you should get your medication levels checked out. Too many times, doctors continue to prescribe medications without talking to the patient about how they are actually feeling. To be fair, it's not the doctor's fault really, because they rarely have personal relationships with patients that would allow them to notice when a drug is not working or is having a negative effect. Meditation wouldn't hurt either!

Is there a way to keep a constant eye on blood sugar levels or is the prick the finger thing always necessary? I was watching Panic Room the other day (yes, I know it's just a movie) and the daughter had a wrist band on that constantly monitored her blood sugar level. Does anyone know if they really make these??? If so, I'd love to get one for my sister-in-law.

I dont know about the wrist band monitor but the insulin pumps now can actually give you the readings without the fingersticks. They are even slimmer and very easy to conceal unlike the ones i had 5 years ago..i hope that helps
