Wal-Mart and Sam's Club $4 Generic Drug Program includes the following medications (along with available dosages) for the treatment of diabetes. The program offers a 30-day supply of generic medications for the low cost of $4. Chlorpropamide (generic Diabinese) 100 mg Glimepiride (generic Amaryl) 1, 2, 4 mg Glipizide (generic Glucotrol) 5, 10 mg Glyburide (generic Micronase) 1.25, 2.5, 5 mg Metformin (generic Glucophage) 500, 850, 1000 mg Metformin XR (generic Glucophage) 500 mg extended release

I can not believe that generic Glucophage is on the list at walmart, my boyfriend takes it and it is expensive. Thanks Malena

Malena, I am delighted that you found this post to be helpful! Yep, metformin (Glucophage) is one of the most commonly prescribed diabetes drugs. I think it's wonderful that both Wal-Mart and Kmart are including it in their low-cost generic programs.

I know that the generics are $4, but what about other maintenance medications that have no equivalent like Avandia?

The only meds are the ones on the list, I found the list on walmarts site under the pharmacy after I learned about it on this site! Check it out www.walmart.com Malena
