I have lived with scoliosis most of my life, and have undergone 7 major spinal surgeries since I was 14 years old. The past year or so, I have been enduring unbelievable pain. I haven't been able to see a doctor, though, because I have no health insurance. I'm wondering if anybody can suggest herbal drugs sold over-the-counter that are designed to relieve pain and muscle spasm? Thank you for your help! |

The only thing that I know about is the alleve and a doctor told me that I could take 4-5 ibuprofen at a time that it was like a prescribed dose for inflammation and pain. Hope you feel better

Thanks for replying, Klassy! I do take 3 ibuprofen at a time, and it helps somewhat. The other thing I do is alternate the ibuprofen with Tylenol when the pain is bad. They don't do much for the muscle spasms, however. I just found out today that Valerian and Kava are supposed to have antispasmodic properties, so I'm gonna give that a try. Wish me luck! |

When I have muscle spasms, I heat up a rice bag (rice inside a material pouch) in the microwave and then put it where ever it hurts the most. When I lose my rice bag (which I do often) then I use a wet hot washcloth (doesn't stay warm long enough though!). It doesn't seem like much and I'm sure you probably already do those things but when I'm in pain it seems like every little bit helps. Be sure to let us know if the herbal thing works! |

Unbelievably I just met someone who makes herbal remedies. They have something called St. John's oil, sensual andtherapeutic massage oil. Not only does it ease the pain but it smells good too. It's a home based business but I've spoken to several people who use thier products. Email them at greenfieldDC@volcano.net |

I'm finding the herbal treatment for the back pain interesting and may like to try it myself. I was told that I had scoliosis back in 6th grade and have problems a lot with sciatic nerve pain. I have tried different pain rubs and all but they don't seem to work all that well. Don't want to have to rely on muscle relaxers. |

Well, back pain is certainly something I can relate to! I have chronic back pain, with a history of multiple spinal surgeries. And the sciatic nerve is my enemy, lol!
Cheerful, do you have to be really careful when using a rice pad in the microwave? Can the material catch on fire or anything? |
