What are the early signs or symptoms of emphysema? I smoked for over 50 years, but was able to finally quit about a year ago. I've been coughing a lot lately, however, and wonder if it's emphysema. I'm also short of breath when I climb the stairs or do any type of strenuous activity. How do you tell the difference beteen emphysema and chronic bronchitis?? And how do doctors diagnose it?

I did a little bit of research and there are several but here are the most common:

coughing
wheezing
difficulty in breathing
Bluish tint to the skin
excess mucus production

hope this helps
