There has to be a better way

January 25th, 2007

Since hubby is totally disabled and I’m on disability. Our income barely covers the basics of living. Usually, its either food or meds. So many a times, we went without meds for food. I’m hoping with this card, I will be able to afford some of the meds that I need. I truly, believe that our government should have a much better health and prescription plan for its citizens. Most of us have worked very hard all our lives for our families and for our children to have a better future.

Instead, the government wastes billions and billion of dollars for lots of useless things. We the people should come first.

I just hope as I get older, that our government will not treat us like we don’t have good values. We do. We already paid the dues and it would be nice to know I could live and not worry about high price medications. I watch commercials and see many ads on places like Red Lobster, Ruby Tuesdays and I wonder if I someday might be able to go and enjoy a meal there. As it is, McDonald’s is about the only place I can enjoy and that is maybe twice a year.

Thank you for listening. Peace to all

It breaks our hearts

January 20th, 2007

My husband and I are on a fixed low income and we cannot afford some of our medicines. Often times our kids and grandkids have to pay for our medicines. It breaks our hearts to see our family have to pay for our medicine. But they love us and they want to help and provide for us, as we did for them.

Lost weight, lowered cholesterol and saved money!

January 20th, 2007

Two or more years ago I had chronic stomach trouble, a slight gut and about 25 pounds too many on my 5′7″ frame. After a physical I was dismayed by how much weight I had gained. I decided to do something about it. My Dr. prescribed Lipitor and Lisinipril (for very slight high blood pressure). My wife and I bought and read the “South Beach Diet” book. It sounded right for us. We immediately began the severe first phase. I also adjusted my sales job so that I rode the bus on days I didn’t need to see customers. Generally my calls could be made one day a week. I also found a bus route that gave me about a mile walk in the morning and the same in the evening when I came home.

Over a 6 month period I lost 32 pounds, I have stopped taking the Lipitor because I have stayed active, even though I have changed jobs. My last physical I was still down close to 30 pounds, and blood pressure and cholesterol were with-in normal levels. My wife has a similar story without the cholesterol and blood pressure issues. She lost about 35 pounds and looks great. We both feel great and enjoy playing with our grandkids without exhausting ourselves.

My deductable is too high

January 17th, 2007

With the start of the new year and of course the “up-grade” of the new insurance benefits, I choose what I thought was the best deal for my situation. I thought I read and understood everything fine, but when I went to refill my husband’s prescription, and one of my own, BOY was I in for a surprise…With my $30 in hand, I was presented with a bill for over $165!! “But it’s always been $30!” Now, with the “new and improved” insurance, not only do I have to pay full price, but I also have to meet a $5000 deductible before I get a break! Look out Wal-Mart, here I come…

Spinal Cord Injury - Need over 10 prescriptions daily

January 15th, 2007

I am a 35 year old female. I sustained a spinal cord injury in an auto accident in 2003. Since that time I have been in physical therapy and have regained my mobility. But the cost of my medications due to the price as well as the number of prescriptions I am on is unbearable. I have health insurance through my husband as well as Medicare. But I still am paying a lot for my copayments. My job is only part time due to my injury. We need assistance with co-pays to keep our head above water. It seems that the price for medications get higher. I have over 10 prescriptions that I take everyday. It may seem little to some to pay copays but to me and my family every dime counts.

Frustration with Employer Prescription Plans

January 13th, 2007

I am very frustrated by the fact that insurance plans are deciding what medications you can and cannot take. It seems to me that if a physician prescribes a medication, then there should be no dispute with an insurance company as to whether the medication is covered or not. We have had three such instances in my family within the past year. Each time I have had to have my doctor contact the insurance company for approval, which seems like a waste of time for a medical care provider.

No Health Insurance

January 13th, 2007

Hello, I am a 27yr old single parent. I work a full-time job and was dropped off of my mothers’ insurance when I turned 25. Since then I have been trying to find affordable health insurance, but I haven’t had any luck. When I spoke with my manager at work, she showed me how much it would cost just for me, being that my son is already covered under NJ Family Care. Needless to say, even my job insurance is way too much (33.00/wk).

Albuterol Rescue Inhaler

January 13th, 2007

Big brother has done away with my Albuterol 17 gm inhaler because it used CFC aerosol. One of the replacements is Albuterol HFA 8.5 gm that cost three times more. After a little research I found two more substitutions for the Albuterol, one is Ventolin HFA which has a dose counter, and Proventil HFA which has a transistion program on their website at proventilfha.com where you can join a program for 1 new inhaler and a discount on 2 refills. All the new inhalers are around 300% more in cost. Even with my United Health insurance the cost was 250% more for the Albuterol FHA. The cost will stay up there for a few years until generic brands come out for us. I think this is the first time that the concern for CFC’s has impacted my life so directly.

Suddenly Michael

January 11th, 2007

My husband of 16 yrs. woke up April 8 2006 with a really bad headache and asked me to drive him to work. Along the way he suffered a major stroke, leaving him paralyzed on his right side unable to walk or talk the doctors gave him a pacemaker which they removed 2 months later due to infection. The doctors now tell us he no longer needs the pacemaker. We both are 41 yrs old, I’m a stay at home mom he was the sole provider. We never saw it coming and certainly weren’t’ prepared financially or any other way for that matter. His job terminated him after 8 weeks leaving us with no health insurance were living on social security and I’m desperately trying to find affordable health insurance for him. We received Medicaid for 2 months then they canceled it i keep reapplying and keep getting denied. It has been 9 months my husband is able to walk again he has no use of his right arm or hand yet and we struggle daily to communicate. He calls me Michael or mom, sometimes by my real name. Everyday gets better and everyday he learns something new and I do to. You have to keep your sense of humor or reality sneaks in and takes your breath away.
