81 Healthy Years —Then “Bang”

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

Up until about May of this year, 2006, I was in what I thought was great shape. I began to experience some problems with urinating and had some swelling in one of my testicles. Upon visiting my doctor, she ordered a PSA Test, which showed I had Prostate Cancer. I was referred to a specialist who ordered various tests, which indicated that the Prostate Cancer had spread into the bones.

The testicle had swollen until it was about the size of a small grapefruit. The doctor suggested that we remove the testicle and during the pre-op work-up, it was detected that I had suffered a “silent heart attack”. After a heart cath, four blockages were found which involved heart bypass surgery.

So I went from an 81 year old male who could do about anything he wanted, to an 81-year-old male who is dependent on my children to help me with my daily needs.

I have no prescription drug plan, the medicines, which I have been taking, costs about $800+ a month. I have just received some help. However I still am spending quite a bit on medicine per month.

I have always taken care of myself and helped my family; it is very frustrating to say the least to be dependent on others.

Cluster Headaches

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

I cannot afford my drugs. The state will not help me with my scripts and my bank account is empty. I have nowhere to turn, so I got on the Internet and found this sight. My headaches are unbearable and an injection of Imitrex will make it go away. I’ve tried a number of drugs that did not work. I will do anything to get rid of these headaches.

Bipolar: Because It’s Too Expensive, My Disorder Goes Untreated Most Of The Time

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

I have been bipolar for most of my adult life. Because it is so expensive to go see a psychiatrist and pay for my medicine, my disorder goes untreated most of the time. I have had problems keeping a job. I have many problems having relationships with people because it is hard to control my mood or even be rational at times. Most of the time, insurance does not cover a big part of psychiatric issues. If I had the medicine needed for my disorder I could probably keep a job and make friends.

Person With Diabetes

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

I can’t afford the medicine for my diabetes, because the co-pay is about $85.00 or more. Strips cost $50.00 to test my sugar. So I don’t check it like I need to. I can’t pay for the medicine that I need, so I just do without most of the time. Also my sugar level is not stable because I can’t check it 4 times a day to see where it is after each meal.

Car Wrecks: Have Medicine Or Eat And Pay Bills

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

I have been in 3 car wrecks in 5 years. None my fault. I have to choose whether to have my medicines or pay rent, bills and eat. It’s not easy with a family of 4. I really need some help. Thank you. I have tried different programs only to be told “we don’t accept that” or “we can’t use that on that drug”. Its very stressful worrying about how I’m going to pay this, do this for the kids. It seems like there is some program out there to help people like myself.

Thank You For The Help

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

Thank you for offering this service. I am financially unable to pay for medications I need. I hope this service will come through for me.

I have a cyst that needs to be removed. This is a painful process. I’m not sure what to expect. People keep telling me I’ll be fine, but I’m concerned there will be complications.

Prescription Plan Discount

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

I am elderly and need a discount plan. Life without a discount plan is expensive and difficult to manage daily expenses. Currently, I must choose between food and medicine…often I cut back on the amount of pills I take…basically, I don’t adhere to the prescribed requirements to address my illness.

Poor Starving College Student And Her Son!

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

No money for meds that I need! I currently am in a full-time nursing program and have no extra money for the meds that I need for my asthma, as well as the meds that my eight-year-old son needs for his asthma too!

There have been months when I have gone without meds and have had the worst time breathing because of lack of money and I am hoping that I do not have to pass this consequence on to my son in the future, if money gets tighter.

No Health Insurance

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

Three years ago my daughter, who was 16 years old, was suffering from dizzy spells caused from low blood pressure and we had no health insurance. To this day we do not know what the cause of it was. She had many tests and took different types of medicine, which costed us over $5,000 dollars. We finally ended up going to a children’s hospital and saw a cardiologist. He said he has seen this in many young girls her age and it would probably clear up within a year and if not, it could be a symptom of something possibly more serious. She had to take a semester off of school and quit her sports programs (cheerleading, soccer & basketball). This was very devastating to her, as she loved school. Luckily her condition did clear up, but when she over accelerates herself she gets feeling the same way. It is a shame that, because we had no health insurance, the doctors just did not seem to care what was wrong with her and we did not have the money for extensive testing. It seems to me the lower classes and upper classes are protected with health care, but not the middle class people of America. We now have health insurance, but there are exclusions on it and we feel this program that I found might help with prescription prices. Thank You!

Just Shoot Me!

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

Dear Sir

I wrote the E-Mail some days ago, to all US Senators and all Pa. Senators, my congressperson, Mayor and received no response.
Where can I get answers to my highlighted questions asked?

Dear Sir or Madam,

I have a dilemma!
My problem is this, I am on disability due to being mugged in 1996 and being physically and mentally unable to work and I receive a total of $1,928.29 a month after paying approximately $78.80 a month for Medicare benefits!

My wife does not work because she helps me get through each day, and she also is a caregiver to her mother due to a stroke two years ago that left her paralyzed and on top of that her father was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s some 14 months ago.

What is going to make us homeless in time is, I pay another $147.00 to supplement my Medicare to (Keystone 65 Direct) and after a recent raise in my wife’s insurance premium of $63.00, to a total of $313.00 a month for my wife’s insurance (Aetna). This comes to a total of $528.00 a month just for health insurance.
That does not include the co-pays ($25 each) I pay to be seen by just 3 of my doctors this month alone. Then there is me and my wife’s prescription co-pay costs, in which my wife takes 2 prescribed medications for epilepsy and I take 7 prescribed medications for mental and physical problems.

If you do the math, you will say how am I living? Thank God for credit cards and 0% to 2.99% balance transfers!
We need UNIVERSAL health care in this State of Pennsylvania!
Or in my house!

Is there some free organization or person that can find us affordable health insurance to fit our family needs, that will cover all of our health needs, such as doctors, hospitals, drug coverage?
I am not looking for a hand out, but just a reasonable health insurance plan in place to cover all of our needs! I have tried to get the appropriate plan, and if I ask a insurance company for an affordable plan, the price might be good, but some services are not included in which we need due to our needs!

I understand that illegal aliens cross the boarder of Mexico and go to a hospital in the USA and not be turned down for health care, even due to there illegal status.
If they get free health care that is being paid by my tax, dollar why can’t I receive free health care with them?
There is something wrong with the system, when you take care of an outsider, instead of taking care of your own family first?
We are a family, aren’t we?

Sincerely,

Then the next day I sent them this E-Mail

Dear sir,

Since yesterday I called my insurance company to see if I could get my premium lowered, but to my surprise, I was told that I had reached my prescription cap max. ($2500.00) and all my prescriptions that I will need until the end of the year would not be covered, like my one medication for a mental disorder I have (Depression) Wellbutrin XL will cost me $367.38 cash, in which I just can’t afford. So this means that I will have to stop taking it when I run out.

I see on TV shows and in the news where people who don’t take there medication for a mental problems, act out in a bad way to themselves or others, in which I am not that way taking my prescribed medication!

To top it all off, I was also told that the medical plan I have now will be abolished as of January 1 2007 and replaced with another plan that will cost me $38.80 more, to a tune of $179.70 and the prescription medication cap will be lowered to $2200.00 instead of the present $2500.00 cap. So the cost of mine and my wife’s health insurance will be increased again to $566.80 a month!

This is an outrage to say the least, I will have to pay more money for less services!

When will it end?

Why is it we can afford billions, for wars and also to help other countries in need, and We The People, of America have to suffer?

This might sound stupid, but in addition to my request, is this comment, why don’t we finish Reagan’s Star Wars Project with the help of other nations that want join us in nuclear defense, then get all of our son’s and daughters home from overseas to seal off our boarders from terrorist and drug traffic coming into our country, instead of building a useless wall to separate the boarder line?

But for now, can you please help me get affordable Health care for me and my wife?
Please!!!

Sincerely,

Ernest T., Pennsylvania
